Addiction to the Box

imageWhat have I missed?

Nose buried in the harsh blue glow of that space we enter to fill the gaps – the gaps of time while waiting, the gap between lying down falling asleep, the gap between tasks (at times, even the gaps between words in a sentence), what have I missed?

What have I missed while wrapped in that massive world contained in the rectangle i hold in my hand? What moments of stillness, what insights, what connections passed by while I wasn’t looking?

And when did I become incapable of sitting in silence? Of enjoying the breeze while listening to small sounds like birdsong or the buzzing of bees?

The days, months, and years are consumed with absurdly trivial matters because we no longer separate the wheat from the chaff. The beautiful, the ugly, insightful, and the garbage are all laid out like a buffet, and we load our plates with ALL of it…

While outside, the seasons change, and inside, we are ever hungry, even as we gorge on empty calories of the mind.
